Licensed Lay Ministers

Licensed Lay Ministers (Readers) LLMs are lay people who are trained and authorised to lead worship and preach in church; however they also get involved in other ministries such as pastoral work and service in their communities. At St Paul’s Dorking, LLM’s have been active in a range of areas of church leadership, including preaching, leading small groups, mentoring, and prayer ministry.

Being lay – not clergy – and yet also ministers, LLMs can often act as a bridge between the world of the church and the rest of the world.
Here at St Paul’s we have one LLM (Graham Everness) and one Reader Emeritus, Dr Pat Goode.

Graham Everness (LLM)
Graham has lived in Dorking and worshipped at St Paul's ever since leaving university.  He has spent his working life as a pensions actuary but is now approaching his own retirement.  In anticipation of that he enrolled on the Diocese's three-year training course and became a Licensed Lay Minister  in 2018. 
Over the years Graham has undertaken a variety of roles within the church, from running the Pathfinder group for 11s-14s to leading services in a care home.  He is also currently the Lay Chairman of Dorking Deanery Synod and one of its representatives on the Diocesan Synod.  
Graham's interests include playing and watching sport (he is a keen follower of Kent cricket but usually only 'online'), outdoor photography (but definitely no selfies!) and song-writing.  He and and his wife Alison have two grown-up daughters whom they catch up with as often as they can.



Pat Goode (Reader Emeritus)
Pat is a retired Medical Practitioner with special interest in Dermatology and has been a Licenced Lay Minister for over 30 years. She is kept busy with three daughters and seven grand-children. She has served as a Secondary School Governor for 12 years at Priory School Dorking. Pat is interested in medical ethics, education and sport especially tennis, cricket and athletics - but a non-participant now!
