Pastoral Team

Everyone experiences times of loss, crisis, or particular need when extra pastoral support is helpful.

St Paul's Pastoral Assistants have been trained by the Diocese of Guildford in order to be able to offer specific support during times of need. A visit from a Pastoral Assistant can be arranged by contacting the church office and leaving your name and number. All details are treated confidentially.

For further details about Pastoral Care and Counselling please contact Estelle Earnshaw or Anne Draper, our Pastoral Co-ordinators via the church office on 01306 743378 or email reception@stpaulsdorking.org.uk

Two of the things I love to do are walking and travelling.   I have had the great joy of travelling to many countries often to see friends or relations.
I have been a Primary teacher for most of my working life, spending many of them at St Paul’s Primary School.  I also taught in Tanzania as a CMS missionary for a short time.
I have been a volunteer for the Brigitte Trust, supporting people with life-threatening illnesses.  Pastoral work has always been important to me and I am a trainer on the Pastoral Assistants Diocesan Course. I also am a trained Spiritual Director.  I find it a great privilege and joy to travel alongside people at special times of their lives, knowing God is with us.

I married my husband John 35 years ago and have lived in Dorking for the majority of my life. I have four children, nine grandchildren and one baby great granddaughter.
I have attended St Paul's Church for over 25 years and it has become my spiritual home.
Shortly after retiring in 2003, I felt God's call to undertake training as a Pastoral Assistant and have felt privileged to support, encourage and walk alongside many people at times of crisis.
This ministry has also been a huge blessing on my life.
My interests are reading, watching sport (as I can no longer play!!) and spending time with my family."

Married to Greg, who I met and married at St Paul's.I love children and have been involved with various youth groups at Church over the years and am currently loving helping with the SPOT group [St Paul's One to Three]. I am a co-leader of an amazing homegroup. I worked for a long time at Friends Provident/Friends Life/Aviva, worked for 4 years as a teaching assistant and am currently working part time for a company providing support for elderly people who have chosen to stay in their own homes. In my spare time I like to travel and to sing. I am a member of the Show Choir in Dorking. I have taken part in a few of the World Church trips to Kenya and more recently to Paris. I have been a Pastoral Assistant for 13 years and love to give the gift of a listening ear to people who need support.

Moved to Dorking in 2017 and just love being here. I trained as a pastoral assistant whilst being a member of St Peter’s church in Walton-on-the-Hill which is a role I really enjoy. I believe that God called me to listening ministries and in my time have helped with rehabilitation counselling, the Samaritans and Victim Support. Now in my mid-seventies I am just working as a PA and am beginning to feel really at home at St Paul’s.
I have 2 daughters living in Dorking and Reigate (how lucky am I?) and 6 grandchildren so I really enjoy being with them and they, together with Digby, my dog,  keep me reasonably active.

I have been married to Heather for more than 40 years, and we have 3 grown up boys. I came to faith as a teenager, and I was a project manager for most of my working life. Since retirement, I have been volunteering for Tearfund. Heather and I have been at St Paul's Church for many years, and served in various roles. I trained as a Lay Pastoral Assistant in 2013/4, and have had the privilege of listening to and walking alongside people of faith and people of no faith. In our spare time, we see our families, and we love to travel and do lots of walking and photography.

I have lived in Dorking since the age of 16 and met and married my husband, Matthew, here.   We have been married for 27 years and have three reasonably grown-up children, aged 24, 22 and 20, one baby grandson and a huge dog!   In life before children I worked in Human Resources but now work part-time for Matthew.  I spend a lot of the rest of my week gardening which I am passionate about.  I have always had a heart for helping people and volunteered for the Samaritans for a number of years.  I have felt drawn to do more in the church and feel that Pastoral work is the role God has planned for me.   I feel it a privilege to walk alongside people, supporting them when in difficulty and, God willing ultimately, in peace.

I decided to become a Christian when doing an Alpha course when I was 26.  It was life changing, but I found it very hard to let go of old habits.  With the support of the people God put around me I learnt to live life instead of running from my problems and feelings, using unhealthy coping mechanisms.  I am passionate about helping others (those who have a faith or none) to do the same.  Married to Adam, we have 3 young children.  I work with a charity that runs courses to help participants build positive mental wellbeing and confidence to cope with the world's pressures.  I currently volunteer for a charity that supports survivors of domestic abuse.

I’m married to Simon with 2 children called Timothy and Elise.  I’ve been a member of St Paul’s for 10 years since I got married and moved to Dorking in 2011.  I grew up in Newdigate so I know the area well and I was very involved in the church there from a young age.  I have a passion for pastoral care and have recently trained to be a parish befriender/pastoral visitor.  I also lead a home group with Simon.  I work from home part-time as an administrator for East Surrey Hospital.  In my spare time I love going to the cinema, eating out and spending time with family and friends

I have loved the Lord from my early childhood years and made a commitment to him in my teens. I have been involved in various roles and served wherever I have worshipped.  My relationship with the Lord has always been a priority for me.  Along with my husband Mike of 42 years we have been in the Uk for 12 years. We served in a church In London for 10 years and I was part of the welcome and prayer teams.
We joined St Pauls in Aug 2019 in order to serve in our local community and have been part of a home group and prayer groups.  I love encouraging and praying for people one on one and therefore took the Befriender and Acorn courses in order to be part of this team and connect with others needing spiritual support & encouragement.  We have appreciated being welcomed into this church family and I would like others to feel loved blessed and cared for in the same way.

I accepted Christ into my life at age 13 after seeing a vision of Him calling me. I have been in many roles in our church life journey and in the various church communities we were involved with. I have a deep assurance of Christ's love, peace, protection, grace, and mercy towards me. I have attended Bible college, 18 months at Layman's school of training, and was a lay minister whilst in the Methodist church. I have continued to learn and attend courses to equip me for the work of the ministry. I  am filled with the Holy Spirit and fully baptized.  Along with my wife of 43 years, we have been in the Uk for 12 years. We served in a church In London - Every nation -  for 10 years and I was part of the men's team, Home church leader, Sound, welcome, and prayer teams.
