Penny and Juan Carlos Marcés

Peru.

Penny first left the UK to serve the Anglican Church in Lima, in 1985, where she later met and married Juan Carlos. Juan Carlos trained as an engineer but gave up his paid employment in order to serve full time as an (unpaid) ordained minister in the Anglican church from 1992.

They have three grown-up children, 2 now in the UK and a son still at home in Lima. As associate mission partners with CMS they are supported by donations from individuals and churches, including St Paul’s, in the UK.

Jesus-el-nazareno

Together they lead the church Jesus el Nazareno, found in a poorer area of Lima. Alongside their general ministry to the parish and to their congregation of around 20, is their outreach work. There are a lot of children in the local area who are their particular focus.

Penny-and-Juan

The Anglican Church in Peru is small, with about 25 Churches, and Juan Carlos and Penny both have Diocesan responsibilities in addition to their own parish. Juan Carlos is “Vicar General” (the Bishop´s right hand man) as well as being Pastoral Coordinator (Rural Dean) for the south of Lima. Penny is coordinator for children´s work in the Diocese, which involves encouraging people in this ministry but also being responsible for the supply of materials to different groups.

As well as our church supporting them financially, our St Paul’s Men’s group MoMENtum is developing closer links.
